IMO, the this thread creator's puzzle "Jugsaw" (http://robozzle.com/puzzle.aspx?id=622) would be the hardest one of all to solve! If it uses paint, as I expect, then it would deserve the title "hardest of all", because of the fact that all colors exist on the puzzle and paint is applied.

The puzzle 'Last One Part 2' for example was solvable for me because the large function limit allowed me to contruct a logical (but extremely complex) solution that fit into less space than the "intended" solution (which I never discovered). So I think having an extremely complex intended solution doesn't necessarily mean that the problem is harder.

Because of the complexity of the board, I don't imagine that there is any possible way that anyone could solve 'Big random area' with anything else other then exactly the intended solution.

So my thinking is that an unsolvable puzzle is:

* the path is sufficiently complex that the intended solution cannot be reverse engineered using logic
* the puzzle is constrained so that no alternative simpler solutions can exist
* the shortest possible solution is long enough that you can't guess it in a reasonable timeframe just by trying all combinations

It's possible I've overlooked a puzzle that is harder. Which problem would you suggest?

I think it would be interesting to look back later to see if we were right. I know that already many of the problems I predicted would go unsolved have actually already been solved.

I didn't solve many very hard puzzles. The hardest one I did solve is perhaps snydej's Rift (http://robozzle.com/puzzle.aspx?id=321) or evko's Light Goes Out (http://robozzle.com/puzzle.aspx?id=148).
