Until we get around to expanding this section, here is an explanation that recursive gave in the forums:

During the execution of a RoboZZle program, information can be stored on the stack.

Every function that is called finishes executing eventually, unless all the stars are collected or an illegal operation is performed. So if you make a bunch of calls before the previous ones finish, if you give them a chance, they will all eventually finish.
